Finding the perfect piece of vintage furniture for a space is one of the best feelings (At least for a furniture and decor loving nerd like me). Searching high and low for unique pieces that I can fit into a perfect nook in my home is my idea of a fun time. I think there’s something really special about finding one of a kind items for your house that not just anyone can find at a store.
Over the last few months I’ve spent countless hours driving around the state of Michigan to check out antique furniture shops. Along the way I’ve gone through my fair share of tightly packed antique shops with creepy antique dolls and crocheted fabrics. However, I’ve found a few that have quality curated retro furniture and decor pieces that are to die for.
Here’s a list of my 5 favorite places to find retro furniture in Michigan
1. Retro Attics– Bay City, Michigan
Retro Attics is one of the coolest shops to find retro furniture. They offer a huge variety of furniture, decor items, dishes and even some vintage clothing at any price point. Located in downtown Bay City, they are a retro gem in a sea of classic antique shops in the surrounding area. Whether you’re looking to invest in a classic mid-century modern Eames or Herman Miller chair, or just need a fun retro end table, they have it. They curate their pieces from all over, including estate sales that allow them to offer furniture that almost looks untouched. We ended up purchasing our end table and coffee table for our back room from here for an incredibly reasonable price and they have been the perfect addition to our retro room. (As a cherry on top, the owners were super friendly and made our trip out to their shop really fun.)
2. Quality Vintage Collectibles– Grandville, Michigan
I don’t even know if I want to share my love for Quality Vintage Collectibles and give away my secrets. This place is genuinely one of the most amazing and affordable places to find vintage furniture and decor items. Located in a warehouse in Grandville, it is filled wall to wall with some truly incredible retro gems. When I first visited, I seriously considered just starting from scratch and buying all new furniture for my house. You can check out their warehouse by appointment, or once in a while on Saturdays if they have multiple appointments, they’ll open up shop to the public. I purchased a retro emerald green Steelcase chair, a gold and wood striped lamp base and some other beautiful retro decor pieces here for under $100 for the entire haul.
3. Lost & Found Treasures of Old & New – Grand Rapids, Michigan
Another place I’ve had a ton of luck finding really unique vintage furniture and decor is Lost & Found in Grand Rapids. Located near Founders in an old industrial building, Lost & Found is a massive two-story space filled with a ton of vintage furniture, decor, rugs and clothing vendors. I love to stop in whenever I’m in town to peruse the building and see what’s new, because there’s always brand new items and vendors to check out.
4. Pick– Kalamazoo, Michigan
Pick is located in the heart of downtown Kalamazoo and offers some amazing retro furniture and decor pieces. They also have really cool vintage artwork. All of the pieces they curate are in pristine condition. You can find some core mid-century modern pieces of furniture for your house here, like a Broyhill credenza or a beautiful mid-century dining room table and chair set. As a bonus they also have the cutest dogs you’ve ever seen and will incorporate them into pictures of some of the items they pick, which is a genius marketing tool if you ask me.
5. Dicker & Deal– Lansing, Michigan
Dicker & Deal doesn’t specialize in retro furniture by any means, but I’ve found some of my favorite retro furniture pieces here, so I thought it was worth a shout out. It’s located locally for me, so I’m able to head here whenever I have a piece of furniture or decor in mind, and therefore I’ve seriously lucked out on pieces that I’ve discovered here. It’s massive and essentially a maze to get through, however if you’re in the mood to dig through rows and rows of furniture, you might just find the perfect piece of furniture or decor for your house. I found my cute mid-century modern nesting tables and 9-drawer mid-century modern dresser for our attic bedroom remodel here, which are two of my favorite retro items in my house.
Finding retro furniture pieces has taken me a ton of time, but I now have these 5 places in my back pocket for whenever I’m thinking up something new for a space. What’s your favorite place to find retro furniture in Michigan and beyond? Let me know in the comments!
