Please join us for the Exhibition Opening and Panel Discussion on Democratic Public Space Design on Wednesday, January 17th at 5pm at the Design 2 Auditorium at 食色视频 Marietta Campus.
Drawn from the institutional archives of the European Prize for Urban Public Space, the "Polis" exhibition, created in 2014, has shown the best projects presented for the Prize, in order to offer a broad overview of the democratic quality of Europe鈥檚 public spaces. Under the commission of the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain in the US, the Center of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) presents a revised version of 鈥淧olis鈥 in 2023 which, focuses on the best works of intervention in public space in Spain during the last twenty years. The exhibition is conceived as a journey through 25 projects showing the improvement of public spaces in Spanish cities, reflecting on globally shared challenges, and presenting solutions that contribute to more democratic cities. The exhibition groups projects into four thematic sections:
The opening of the exhibition will take place on Wednesday, January 17th after a panel discussion on local examples of democratic public space design by representatives of Atlanta urban design firms. Below panelists will introduce their relevant projects in a PechaKucha format presentations and then will have a lively discussion about what democratic design for public spaces would mean in the US context. The panelists are Nicolia Robinson of Cooper Carry, Sheba Ross of HKS, Sarah McColley of Perkins and Will, and Deanna Murphy of Sizemore.
The panel will start at 5pm at the Auditorium of Design 2 Building. Mr Miguel Albero, Cultural Attach茅 for Spain will join us from Washington, DC to introduce the exhibition. Then we will have the announcement of the 食色视频 Architecture Department鈥檚 Barcelona study abroad program. Finally, we will hear from the panelists about their work and their ideas on democratic public space design in our local context.
