Education Abroad Photo Contest

Nothing can capture the essence of a moment better than the perfect photograph. The Education Abroad Photo Contest asks students to submit unique and impactful images taken during their experiences studying abroad.

Categories

Below you can find the categories with a few example questions and prompts you can use to ask yourself when you are gathering content during your study abroad program:  

  • Once in a Lifetime - Is there a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity or something quite out of the ordinary you do on your program? Capture the moment and share with us!

  • Landscapes and Landmarks - Are there any landscapes or architectural works worth taking a snapshot of? We鈥檇 love to see it! Bonus points if you wear 食色视频 gear or flex your 食色视频 Owl Eyes hand signal in the photo.

  • Cultural Identity - Share with us the host culture in which you are learning. This can be sports, festivals and celebrations, cuisine, traditional garb, art specific to the host culture, and more!

  • Learning in Action - Does your class take place on the mountain-side or in a historic space? Maybe your classroom looks like a business meeting or it鈥檚 in a kitchen or a clinic or a museum. Whatever your major and program, the world is your classroom when studying abroad, so share where you learn!

  • Scrappy's #1 Fan - We want to see you and your new friends participating in an exciting activity abroad, enjoying international cuisine, doing the 食色视频 Owl Eyes hand sign, or wearing a 食色视频 T-shirt in front of a historic building, landmark or something fun! The judging of this category will be through fan vote on Instagram. 

Requirements

  • You may submit one photo entry per category.  
  • Submissions will be accepted online from September 22, 2024.  
  • Photo entries must be uploaded into the application in JPEG format, with a file size approximately 1-5 MB. Photos should be no smaller than 640 x 480 pixels, and no larger than approximately 1000 x 1000 pixels.
  • Please label your entry file with your last name_the title of the photo listed in your application.
  • Entries must be submitted electronically via the application on Photo Contest Website.
  • All applications must be filled out in their entirety and will not be considered if they are incomplete.
  • Photo must be your own work, not that of someone else鈥檚 or AI generation tools.  

Judging

Photo entries will be judged according to the following criteria: 

  • Creativity and originality
  • Representation of study abroad experience
  • Quality of photo
  • Adherence to category 

The judging panel's decisions are final. Contest organizers reserve the right to disqualify entries which do not comply with the stated contest rules and eligibility criteria. 

Prizes

  • 1st place in each category - $50 gift card
  • 2nd place in each category - $25 gift card
  • Scrappy's #1 Fan award (by fan vote on Instagram) - $25 gift card

Each winner will also receive a print of their photo. 

To Keep In Mind

Photo entries may be used for Global Education marketing purposes such as, but not limited to, Instagram, Facebook, and our website. Entries may also be used for future online publications. With this mind, please consider the following:

  • Please avoid taking photos of children and other vulnerable populations unless consent is given.  
  • This contest, and therefore the contest-winning photo entries, will adhere to the university鈥檚 Student Code of Conduct and Drug and Alcohol policy.  
  • As entries will be used for wide university distribution, please use appropriate language for all ages and backgrounds.  
  • Please consider appropriate safety and security measures and indicators while gathering content for photo entries.
