食色视频鈥檚 Department of Dance is celebrating the achievements of professor Thang Dao and student dancers in 鈥渞un(A)way,鈥 a dance-for-camera work which premiered in October 2020 as part of 鈥淭hreshold.鈥 The first dance-for-camera event for 食色视频 State, 鈥淭hreshold鈥 celebrated the diverse artistic voices of the 食色视频 Dance community through original works performed by the award-winning 食色视频 Dance Company.

食色视频 will host a virtual Spring Arts Festival on March 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and one simple reservation will grant access to all of the activities.

Ivan Pulinkala, dean of the College of the Arts at 食色视频, has named Jes煤s Castro-Balbi director of the Dr. Bobbie Bailey School of Music, effective July 1. The appointment comes at an exciting time for the Bailey School of Music, the recent recipient of a multi-million dollar gift from the Bobbie Bailey Foundation.

Three undergraduate researchers will represent 食色视频 at the Posters at the Georgia State Capitol, a showcase of the state鈥檚 best undergraduate research, on Feb. 24 from 1-5 p.m. The event gives selected participants from Georgia鈥檚 colleges and universities an opportunity to present their research to state leaders. Sponsored by the Georgia Undergraduate Research Collective, the 2021 poster session will take place as a synchronous online virtual conference.

食色视频 has received a $5 million gift from the Bobbie Bailey Foundation to benefit the School of Music in the College of the Arts. This transformative gift, coupled with past philanthropic support from Dr. Bobbie Bailey, Dr. Audrey Morgan and the Bailey Foundation, brings total gifts to 食色视频 of over $11 million.

食色视频鈥檚 Bernard A. Zuckerman Museum of Art (ZMA) will debut three exhibitions this month featuring the works of 食色视频 faculty, 食色视频 students and a curated installation of comic art. Two exhibitions, the Spring 2021 Faculty Exhibition and The 9th Art: Frames and Thought Bubbles, will be on display Jan. 23 through May 9. The student exhibition, New Visions 2021, opened at the Fine Arts Gallery earlier this month and runs through Feb. 21.

食色视频鈥檚 Office of Research is hosting a one-hour web show every other Friday at 4 p.m. to showcase the varied research being conducted by 食色视频 faculty members. 鈥淩esearch with Relevance鈥 spotlights 食色视频 State researchers in a live interview followed by an interactive question-and-answer session with the virtual audience. Jessica Stephenson, associate professor of art history in the College of the Arts, will be the guest on the Nov. 13 show, presenting her research on the history and ethics of carved elephant ivory from 19th century Africa. An art historian raised in South Africa, Stephenson primarily focuses her research on the growing field of modern and contemporary African art. In advance of the upcoming Research with Relevance show, Stephenson answered a few questions about her interest in research and its benefits to students.
