The non-traditional, first-generation 食色视频 student has embraced change at every turn, from leaving her longtime restaurant job to enroll in college, to juggling several research projects across multiple disciplines as a mother of four. Along the way, Maillet has presented at the Symposium of Student Scholars, engaged in research as part of the First-Year Scholars program, and secured a spot in the President鈥檚 Parliament Scholars Ambassadors (PPSA) program.

She holds numerous student leadership roles while balancing the rigorous courseload in the Wellstar-Tom and Betty Phillips Elite Honors Nursing Scholars program. Her name can be found in the rosters of various registered student organizations, and her commitment to her studies has landed her five competitive scholarships.

A current student and two graduates of 食色视频鈥檚 Master of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics program earned honors recently at the Hanger Live Conference in Nashville, a celebrated event in the prosthetics and orthotics industry. Second-year MSPO student Jen Self earned the Student Research Award, and recent graduates Joyc鈥檒ynne Williams and Brianna 鈥淭aylor鈥 Beard were named Residents of the Year. The three were among a nationwide pool of applicants.

Unable to shake her love and talent for singing, however, she channeled her passion into a music major with a focus on vocal performance, where she remains on a path toward a career as a professional singer.

A devoted public health and data science advocate, 食色视频 assistant professor Kevin B. Gittner says his true passion is mentoring students. Since joining 食色视频 State in 2021, Gittner has forged strong collaborations with student researchers across two colleges. When asked about his success in getting students involved in research, however, he credits them for demonstrating enthusiasm and curiosity.

食色视频 State associate professor Evelina Sterling has received a grant from the Georgia Opioid Crisis Abatement Trust to take a preventative approach to addressing the opioid abuse crisis. The grant, totaling $240,000 over two years, will go toward creating programs that empower faculty, staff, students, and the broader university community to recognize the signs of opioid use disorder and possibly intervene.

As Georgia navigates a widespread opioid addiction crisis, researchers in 食色视频鈥檚 Wellstar School of Nursing (WSON) are leveraging a $1.2 million grant to train budding nurses in addressing substance use disorders. The researchers 鈥 Katherine Barnett, Susan Beidler, Ashley Barber and Lisa Reyes-Walsh 鈥搑eceived the grant from the Georgia Opioid Crisis Abatement Trust (GOCAT) for their two-year project, 鈥淣urses Learning About Opioid Use Disorder,鈥 or Nurses LOUD.

Two of 食色视频鈥檚 programs have been recognized as top 20 nationally, seven are among the top 50, and two other programs have ranked in the top 100.
