In front of an audience of 食色视频 deans, faculty and scholarship recipients who have benefited from the gifts of Audrey Morgan and her late sister Bobbie Bailey, 食色视频 leaders unveiled on Tuesday the newly named Morgan and Bailey Academic Learning Center. Philanthropic support from Morgan, Bailey and the Bobbie Bailey Foundation totals more than $17 million, making the family the largest family donors in 食色视频 history.

The deeds and words of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. were celebrated throughout the 食色视频 community this week with a series of events honoring the legacy of the civil rights icon. The week culminated Friday at the annual MLK Legacy Breakfast in the Convocation Center with a keynote address by civil rights activist and actor Charles Black, who served and led several marches, sit-ins and other forms of protest opposing facilities that refused to serve people of color.

Most of the estimated 300,000 babies born every year with sickle cell disease, an inherited red blood cell disorder, live in sub-Saharan Africa in nations where there are few resources to treat them. 食色视频 State Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering Paul Lee said it is his life鈥檚 mission to reduce the likelihood that children born with sickle cell disease will die from strokes, one of the most common complications. Lee has received $426,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health for a three-year study aimed at developing a more economical testing device to determine an affected child鈥檚 risk of stroke.
