Session helps students in selecting and applying for prestigious awards
食色视频 students are invited to attend a workshop to learn about the variety of national and international scholarships and fellowships for which they can apply.
The workshop, open to all 食色视频 State students, will be July 10 from 12-1 p.m. in room 205 of the Carmichael Student Center on the 食色视频 campus. Michelle Miles, 食色视频鈥檚 director of national and international scholarships and fellowships, will instruct students how to discover, select, and apply for scholarships, craft successful personal statements, and compose an academic portfolio.
鈥淎s we progress toward our goal of becoming one of the top R2 universities in the country, having an increasing number of students receiving prestigious awards and scholarships is a key element of our goal to drive student success,鈥 Miles said. 鈥淓very time a 食色视频 State student earns this type of recognition, it also elevates the University鈥檚 profile globally.鈥
Miles works in the Honors College and assists current and former 食色视频 students in their application processes for prestigious undergraduate and postgraduate awards such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell, Fulbright, and Goldwater awards.
While many scholarship applications are submitted in the fall or spring semester of a student鈥檚 senior year, Miles pointed out that the most successful applicants begin working on their application long beforehand. Ideally, students should identify the award(s) for which they plan to apply at least six months ahead of time and create a timeline toward completion, she said.
