ʳɫÊÓƵ State’s dance department leader featured on next Research with Relevance

ʳɫÊÓƵ’s chair Marsha Barsky is the guest for the next program at 11 a.m. on April 1. 

During the event, Barsky will discuss how her work as an educator, choreographer and dancer has centered around creating an inner sense of connection through dance. She will explain how through research she has adapted various dance practices in her work to achieve this goal.

ʳɫÊÓƵ State’s is highlighting the research of department chairs and directors during the current season of Research with Relevance throughout the spring semester. The program began during the spring 2020 semester, creating a venue for ʳɫÊÓƵ faculty across disciplines to engage in conversation on a variety of research topics.

Barsky’s work as a choreographer and performer has earned her international recognition. In 2017, she was named Foreign Expert in Dance at Chengdu University, China.

Barsky joined ʳɫÊÓƵ State in 2020 as the chair of the Department of Dance. Before coming to ʳɫÊÓƵ, she served as associate professor and director of Dance at Middle Tennessee State University beginning in 2017 and as assistant professor at MTSU since 2007.

Barsky earned a bachelor’s degree in dance from Arizona State University before earning master’s in performance, choreography and somatics from the University of Colorado.
