An academic advisor is a student's guide to success at 食色视频. The advisement process allows a student to create a relationship with an advisor who can assist with planning a educational career, learning the skills needed for academic success, and connecting the student to a variety of campus resources and services.

Academic advising is a collaborative process between student and advisor. The student's relationship with an advisor is a two-way street by which both have defined responsibilities for ensuring a successful partnership.

Roles and Responsibilities

Advisor Responsibilities

  • Treat each student with respect and dignity
  • Be honest and solution oriented
  • Explain program admission and degree completion requirements
  • Assist in planning courses and an appropriate course load based on a major
  • Discuss implications of schedule adjustments (adding, dropping, or withdrawing from courses)
  • Explain how to read and review a DegreeWorks degree audit
  • Assist with academic major exploration and changing a major or minor
  • Discuss alternate/parallel majors as needed
  • Discuss strategies for success in college (time management, study tips, and signing up for tutoring in the Learning Center)
  • Guide students to appropriate campus resources as needed

Student Responsibilities

  • Meet with an academic advisor to review courses and discuss registration each semester鈥攐r, as needed
  • Discuss implications of schedule adjustments, including course withdrawal, with an academic advisor and the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships
  • Confirm major/minor selections through your OwlExpress page
  • Understand the requirements for a selected major and/or minor, including courses, application procedures, department policies, and GPA/grade requirements
  • Consider alternate/parallel degree plans
