Faculty Resource Guide
Each semester, the Zuckerman Museum of Art issues a Faculty Resource Guide to provide
an overview of what is on display in the galleries. This document includes synopses
of the exhibitions and an outline of the themes and learning goals they contain.
If you would like to bring a group of students to the Zuckerman Museum of Art or would like assistance in planning a learning experience for students, please contact our Education and Outreach Coordinator, Elizabeth Thomas, at 470-578-6767.
The 2024 Art Educators Biennial: Playful Encounters will be on view September 3rd through October 4th in the Fine Arts Gallery.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The Zuckerman Museum of Art鈥檚 2024 Art Educators Biennial, Playful Encounters, considers how art can be about play and the myriad ways artist-educators engage artmaking for enjoyment and recreation. Play carries the imagination to unexpected destinations and supports unbridled generative work.
Didi Dunphy, artist and juror of Playful Encounters, engages concepts of play at the core of her practice. According to critic Rebecca Brantley, 鈥淒unphy鈥檚 exploration of happiness has factors at work that prove play is a nuanced and worthwhile endeavor. Notions of gender, art history, and fulfillment are among her concerns.鈥
This exhibition, open only to art teachers in P-12 schools in the metro Atlanta region,
seeks submission of work representing artistic engagement through playful encounters.
ABOUT THE JUROR
Didi Dunphy received an MFA from San Francisco Art Institute in the contemporary arts.鈥 She is an accomplished artist having had exhibits in major venues such as the Atlanta Contemporary, COCA, St. Louis, Telfair Museum in Savannah, the Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art in Florida, the Armory Center for the Arts, Pasadena, CA and more. A number of features have been written about Ms. Dunphy including Southern Living, Craft, CMYK, as well as art and exhibition reviews in the LA Times, SF Chronicle, Atlanta Journal Constitution, and others. Dunphy鈥檚 design works have been placed in a number of collections and included in design publications such as Elle D茅cor, Paper, Interior Design, Vogue Living, Cookie, Metropolis as well as design book publications including Downtown Chic by Rizzoli, Toy Design by Braun Publishing and Fun Rooms, Collins Design publishing.
